Burma Jade
Burma Jade
The scarcity, the rich colors and the overall quality make Burma (Myanmar) Jadeite the preferred jade nowadays.Translucent emerald-green jadeite is the most prized variety. The vivid (so called spicy) green variety became known as Feicui or Kingfisher (feathers) Jade. It became a popular favorite to the royals and riches since Qing Dynasty centuries ago.
Burma is now the principal source of modern jadeite. In the area of Mogaung in the Myitkyina District of Upper Burma, & in Mandalay, the largest jade market in northern Myanmar. Jadeite formed a layer in the dark-green serpentine, and has been quarried and exported for well over a hundred years.
Jade Colors & Patterns
Authentic jade often comes in natural colors of various tones in one piece, such as ink (dark) green, emerald-green & bean /apple green mixed, green with lavender or yellow or white etc.; and different color patterns. e.g. fibrous, granular, felt-like, asbestos-like, cloud-like, jelly veins or irregular intertwining streaks visible with bare-eyes or under 10X loupe.
Once you wear it and get contact with your skin, breath and body heat over time, the translucency, the color combination and patterns of the jade will be naturally enhanced to be brighter, more supple (shinier), more spread-out and evolving of more of the same colors or other hidden colors, e.g. lavender or light orange-red (very rare but possible), etc..
Of all the natural colors of Burma jade, emerald-green is the most prized, and so as pure-lavender, pure pink or pure-red. Pure means one single tone in one piece of jade. Any jade piece comes with 3 natural different colors e.g. white, green and lavender is referring to blessing, wealth and longevity in Chinese beliefs. If the jade piece comes with 4 or even 5 different natural colors is referring to 4 or 5 happiness come to your house which is very rare, and a definite hidden treasure.
A perfect cream of the crops jade piece is naturally born with very high translucency and luster (so called good water) after minimal polish, without any inclusion, with rich natural colors (e.g. emerald-green, lavender or red), weighty and finely crafted. This class of jade usually the "Old Pit Glass Type" is highly appreciative in values and extremely prized. Superb ink green jade, looking like black jade but appearing with rich concentrated emerald-green under spotlight, is becoming extremely rare & highly prized also.
Jade Wearing & Setting
Premium jade piece is best to be worn with simple or patterned strings to preserve its original purity and beauty, or it can be set with other jewelries e.g. diamond, crystal, gold, karat gold, silver, sterling silver etc. in pendant, necklace, earrings, rings & bracelet etc..
On jade bangle, premium or superb grading jade bangle is best to be worn by itself without any other jewelry settings. Normally, if a jade bangle is set someplace on the piece with other jewelry e.g. karat gold or sterling silver, the piece usually (not always) contains non-repairable breakages or cracks, etc., so the metal setting is to cover the flaw. And we do not carry jade bangles with metal setting over the jade so to review the original purity and beauty.
